Russian occupants unlawfully detained six Georgian citizens near Mejvriskhevi village on July 7, said Aleksi Batiashvili, First Deputy Head of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSG), at the expanded meeting of three parliamentary committees when presenting the 2022 annual report.
According to Aleksi Batiashvili, the SSG activated a hotline and notified international partners to release the detainees shortly. He further noted that nine Georgian citizens remained imprisoned by the occupation regime before the end of 2022.
“The Russian Federation continued unlawful detentions, borderization, and other security-damaging measures to put pressure on the Georgian central government. Last year, 13 individuals were captured near occupied Abkhazia, while 44 were detained in the occupied Tskhinvali region,” he stated.
