SSG detains two Georgian citizens in terrorism probe

The Counterterrorism Center of the State Security Service of Georgia (SSG), as a result of operative activities, detained two Georgian citizens within its terrorism investigation.

The SSG conducted simultaneous special raids in two regions of Georgia on four locations. As a result of investigative activities, flags with the terrorist organization ISIS symbolics and various electronic data devices have been seized.

Furthermore, ammunition, explosive device and materials have been confiscated from the detainees’ houses.

The SSG Counterterrorism Center probed into the case under Articles 327 and 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

Active operative-investigation activities are ongoing both in order to establish the character of the detainees’ involvement with ISIS, as well as to identify other individuals related to the crime.

The SSG praised the Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for their cooperation.
