As of January 2020, 431 902 people (11.6 %) in Georgia receive Pecuniary Social Assistance (Subsistence Allowance), Social Service Agency(SSA) published the statistics.
Among 431 902 people, 46 628 of the recipients are 0-6-year-old. 105 596 are 6-18-year-old.
Since 2019, the Georgian government has increased assistance up to 50 GEL per child for socially vulnerable families. 30 GEL is allocated for food that can be spend by card and 20 GEL in cash. In regions, socially vulnerable families receive 50 GEL only in cash.
At this stage, with the support of the UNICEF, the government is assessing the impact of financial assistance on children and the results will be announced later this year. After that, it will be decided how to distribute financial aid (50 GEL) throughout the country.
