Speaker: When Trump Brand enters country, it is a statement in itself

“The Trump Tower Tbilisi project is of particular importance to Georgia’s economy. It will be an important part of our economic growth. At the same time, when the Trump brand enters a country, it is in itself a statement,” Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuasvili said on Georgian Public Broadcaster’s program Actual Topic.

According to Papuasvili, Georgia is experiencing an exceptional rate of economic growth by global standards, which has contributed to the idea of developing a complex of skyscrapers in Tbilisi under the Trump Tower brand.

“I am coming from the presentation of the project, and it was truly an extraordinary presentation, both in terms of its content and its format. This project has twofold significance. First, it represents a $2 billion investment, which in itself is a very large and substantial investment. Therefore, it is of particular importance to our economy.

Let me remind you that, in parallel, the Eagle Hills project involves a $6 billion investment. In total, these two investment projects represent $8 billion in investment. So, this will naturally be an important part of our economic growth.

Second is the brand itself. When the Trump brand enters a country or a city, that in itself is a statement. Eric Trump, who joined today’s presentation, also spoke about why the decision was made to build Trump Tower in Georgia. Although, as a rule, 99% of ideas and projects are rejected, this particular idea — to build a complex of skyscrapers in Tbilisi under the Trump Tower brand — attracted the attention of The Trump Organization because Georgia has truly exceptional economic growth by global standards.

We have averaged 9% economic growth over the past five years. No country, not only in the region but anywhere in the world, has achieved such growth. This demonstrates the great potential for investment.

Another factor is Georgia itself, and Tbilisi as a location at the crossroads of Europe and Asia and at the crossroads of cultures, with its political and economic significance. I think the emergence of the Trump brand here is also important for The Trump Organization itself — for the Trump brand to proudly stand and shine in this part of the world, at this crossroads of different civilizations.

So I think this is a major mutually beneficial project, which, as was noted today, is truly ahead of its time,” Papuasvili said.
