“What I heard yesterday mirrored the Soviet Congress of People’s Deputies, both in content and aesthetics. It has no other name. Actually, the process of Sovietization of the European Parliament is nearing completion,” said Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, echoing the debates on the case of Elene Khoshtaria and Political Prisoners in the European Parliament.
According to Papuashvili, today’s EU is approximating the Soviet values.
“We wanted Brussels based on values, but received the Soviet Congress of People’s Deputies, taking steps backwards in Soviet Union history. For now, it is in the period of 1989 at the level of Gorgachev’s Perestroika, they may move even backward. Therefore, Georgians should know that today’s EP is very similar to the Soviet Congress of People’s Deputies,” he said.
Shalva Papuashvili believes that holding debates dedicated to perpetrators is shameful.
“I remind you that Elene Khoshtaria is the individual, who admitted that Molotov Cocktails, fireworks and other substances of violence were discovered in her office. She admitted that she buys these flares and distributes them to burn down the Georgian Parliament building, police officers, and shoot at them. This demonstrates that this assembly has lost values, which any democratic institution should adhere to,” he said.
