Speaker: Voices upholding European identity grow louder in EP, despite resurgent forces leading Europe back into darkness
“It is vital that the voices of our European partners are increasingly heard within the European Parliament, voices of those who believe that European identity must be preserved and that the European Union should stand firmly on its foundational European values,” stated Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia.
According to Papuashvili, however, regressive forces remain powerful within the European Union, pushing it back towards Europe’s darker past.
He emphasised that this was starkly evident during the debates held in the European Parliament yesterday.
“We witnessed this unmistakably yesterday, as we looked directly into the civilisational abyss towards which Brussels’ bureaucracy is steering the European Union. If anyone is curious about what this civilisational abyss entails, they need only watch yesterday’s session of the European Parliament; it vividly illustrates the depths to which Europe is descending. We saw a disturbing mixture of everything rooted in Europe’s dark history: contempt, civilisational arrogance, and a sense of superiority, accompanied by lies, propaganda, and disinformation, all voiced from the rostrum of the European Parliament,” Papuashvili remarked.
He added that both the citizens of the European Union and the Georgian people, who aspire to join the EU and are proud creators of European values, are disappointed with the current state of European institutions.
“Of course, this represents the greatest disappointment, first and foremost, of the citizens of the European Union, who see their institutions diverging from the will of the European peoples. Instead, they seem to have become mere instruments of geopolitical and globalist agendas whispered into their ears by unofficial powers.
Secondly, it is a profound disappointment for the Georgian people, who, beyond aspiring to EU membership, themselves consider themselves active contributors to European civilisation and values. We, Georgians, see Brussels dismantling European civilisation before our very eyes. Not only do we see this, but even the United States, the main guarantor of European security, is now speaking out about it,” Papuashvili concluded.
