Speaker tags Shovi landslide interim commission idea as speculation

“The idea of establishing an interim facts-finding commission on the Shovi natural disaster is nothing but political speculation and the wish to cause hysteria,” said Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.

According to the Speaker, MPs have other effective means to obtain answers, and the UNM members have sent their questions in interpellation rule to the Minister of Internal Affairs.

“As for the commission, there was disagreement on this issue even among the opposition, as some realized it was an attempt to stage a political show against the backdrop of the tragedy that would only harm them,” said Papuashvili.
