Speaker slams UK and Finland op-ed on Press Freedom Day as 'Crocodile Tears'
The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, shared on social media a joint op-ed by the United Kingdom and Finland marking World Press Freedom Day, which had been published on the Facebook page of the British Embassy in Georgia.
Reacting to the statement, Papuashvili wrote: “When you read this text full of false pathos from the embassy, which has been trying to damage two leading Georgian media outlets for two months now, only one assessment comes to mind – crocodile tears,” he stated.
