Speaker says concerns over Transparency of Foreign Influence bill linked to stigmatization

Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said the concerns of the international partners over Transparency of Foreign Influence bill are “understandable” amid its “stigmatization attempts and propaganda wave” internally.

Papuashvili echoed the assessment of the People’s Power faction-tabled Transparency of Foreign Influence draft-law by the EU External Action Service saying the bill raises “serious concerns” and its adoption would be “inconsistent” with Georgia’s “aspirations and with EU norms and values.”

According to Papuashvili, had had communicated with foreign partners and diplomats, and everybody agrees on the importance of financial resources’ transparency of those, who stand behind the political decision-making.

“We act on behalf of the Georgian people, the society. Georgian people have the right to know what are the financial sources of those subjects, which are involved in the formation and taking of political decisions,” he said.
