Speaker Papuashvili says last two months show GD represents people's interests, while opposition and NGOs stand for foreign countries' interest

“Two months have passed, and finally, the position of the radical opposition and their ally NGOs has shown us that the interest of the Georgian people is on one side, and the opposition and their ally NGOs are on the other,” the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, told the media, remarking on the majority member, MP Guram Macharashvili’s statement.

“I cannot say anything about the legal dimension of this issue, but we can already draw our conclusions about the moral, ethical and political dimensions of this issue. Two months have passed, and finally, the position of the radical opposition and their ally NGOs has shown us that the interest of the Georgian people represented by the Georgian Dream is on one side, and the opposition and their ally NGOs are on the other, standing for the foreign countries’ interests. That is a fact.

They are antagonised and want to use the word betrayal as many times as possible because they do realize their betrayal themselves. With these decisions, they are already stuck in their betrayal. They showed us they are on the side of foreign countries, not Georgia. They try to project it onto others. In fact, we saw a group of NGOs and radical opposition in this process, which are Orjonikidzes of the 21st century. Now, they want to further the sanctions of foreign countries and ignite dissent in Georgia. If they approached the case, they would have led the army of a foreign country, as Orjonikidze led the 11th army. Then, he also said he was progressive and bringing progress to Georgia. That’s how it appeared. It is exactly the same Orjonikidzes of the 21st century who act directly in the interests of foreign countries.

Let’s look at the facts, what will the law affect? It will affect the issues of the influence of foreign countries. Accordingly, those who do not support the transparency of foreign finances, what do they support – opacity, obscurity, and the fact that these influences are carried out secretly in Georgia for the citizens of Georgia. In other words, they stand on the side of the interests of foreign countries”, said Shalva Papuashvili.

According to the Speaker, “No matter what is a foreign country, no matter how much a partner and friend, the only main friend of Georgia is the Georgian people. All other countries are foreign countries.”

“We are only driven by the interests of the Georgian people. The interest of the rest of the people is the thinking and representation of their countries and not the pursuit of NGOs financed from there. Therefore, it is that, in general, they have their orientation confused. They are Georgians by birth, citizens of Georgia and are in the service of foreign countries and groups. This is a fact. One of them even confirmed it. Do you remember Khatia Dekanoidze, whom I reminded that she was even formally in the service of a foreign country? She sold her Georgian passport for the citizenship of another country. Then she came back. Do you remember her revelations that she worked with the services of Ukraine and the USA to impose sanctions on Georgia? So, in some cases, they even spill the facts that they work for foreign countries, and this is a fact, the Georgian society sees it,” said Shalva Papuashvili.
