Speaker: We will defend Georgia with all our strength, knowledge, and determination

“The events that unfolded after October 26 — including the baseless declaration of fair elections as fraudulent, the renewed attempt to artificially spark a protest wave, the boycott announced by the puppet opposition, and the sabotage of the political process — have convinced a large share of opposition-leaning voters that they were misled,” Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili wrote in a social media statement.

According to Papuashvili, the opposition “fooled and deceived the electorate” and squandered both the trust and the mandates they had received.

“Today is October 26. One year has passed since the parliamentary elections which were framed as a referendum and portrayed as an end to the peace and development achieved through years of work, accompanied by threats of dragging the country into a neighbouring war. We accepted this challenge and presented the Georgian people with a clear and understandable picture of the geopolitical reality — not war, but peace. More than 2.1 million voters went to the ballot boxes, and 54% of them made an unmistakable and resounding choice: we choose peace, we reject war.

This straightforward and unambiguous decision also reflected a broader political choice: a vote for traditional values, national interests, sovereignty, independence, economic development, family, culture, faith, and future generations. This is what the Georgian Dream has fought to defend — both domestically and internationally — protecting Georgia’s identity and its right to self-govern. In total, 1,120,053 Georgian patriots joined this struggle, expressing an unwavering will and defining the country’s future course,” he wrote.

Papuashvili said: “The elections of October 26 became a defining moment for a real, tangible Georgia.”

“Together with our voters, we opposed not only the revanchist and destructive internal forces — the crooked opposition driven by the ideology of the National Movement — but also their external globalist allies, who have long assigned Georgia the role of a pawn to be sacrificed on the geopolitical chessboard. These forces, along with their local agents, claim they know better than Georgians themselves what the country’s future should be, what we must learn or abandon, how we must live, and where our place should be. They reject the wisdom of a three-thousand-year-old state and push it toward the edge of the abyss. This is the distorted reality they are stubbornly trying to impose.

After October 26, when a fair election was falsely declared rigged, when yet another artificial protest wave was launched, and when puppet opposition groups declared a boycott and sabotaged the political process, most opposition voters realised they had been misled. The parties they trusted had deceived them and wasted the mandates they received. The subsequent process demonstrated that the government acted with strength and wisdom, while the enemies of the country behaved in the same destructive way as before.

At the same time, the past year revealed an unprecedented phenomenon — blatant, insidious and harmful interference by certain Western countries and their diplomatic missions in Georgia’s internal affairs. The real Georgia stood against these forces operating from abroad.

Everything hidden became visible. The plan targeting Georgia was laid bare: it was not about supporting Georgian democracy or strengthening the will of its people, but about replacing the national government at any cost, mobilising every instrument of influence — overt or covert — from media and NGOs to foreign actors and political agents. The veil was lifted, exposing the reality in its true form.

The real Georgia stood up to these distorted forces, for whom our country is merely a tool of foreign interests. The front line of this battle runs through the minds of our citizens. In this ongoing struggle, people’s thoughts, beliefs, and choices have become the primary target. Through calculated psychological pressure, vulnerable individuals were convinced that the national government is “Russian,” that war does not exist, that defeat is victory, that charity is destruction, and that prosperity is poverty.

The local self-government elections of October 4, 2025, finally put an end to these lies and manipulations. In a free environment, loyal Georgian voters once again turned out in large numbers and reaffirmed their repeatedly expressed will. Over the past 13 years, the Georgian people have granted this mandate nine times — and now, for the tenth time,” Papuashvili declared.

According to him, the ruling party will continue to defend the “real Georgia”:

“That is why I once again thank our voters — true patriots — and all citizens who support the country’s development within the constitutional framework, regardless of political preference, who value peace, remember the harsh lessons of history, and look toward a better future. We will not fail our duty to the country; we will not betray it; we will not turn away. In the struggle between the real and the distorted, we will defend the real Georgia with all our strength, knowledge, and determination — against every visible and invisible enemy — and we will correct every injustice, every distortion, and every act of oppression,” the Speaker concluded.
