Speaker on EU Ambassador's statement: Responsibility for Saakashvili lies with us, not Kyiv for sending him, nor Brussels for demanding his release
Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, addressed the EU Ambassador’s statement on social media, emphasizing, “It is not Kyiv’s fault that Saakashvili was secretly sent to Georgia, nor is it Brussels’ fault. If the European Union demands the release of the convicted Saakashvili, the responsibility lies with us.”
Papuashvili responded to comments made by the EU Ambassador to Georgia, Pawel Herczynski, who stated, “The problem is not in Brussels nor in Washington or Kyiv; it is here in Georgia.”
Papuashvili continued, “Of course, it is not Kyiv’s fault that Ukrainian military intelligence planned and executed the covert transfer of Mikheil Saakashvili to Georgia before the 2021 elections. And, of course, it is not Brussels’ fault that the European Union calls for his release. The fault is ours!”
