Speaker: NGOs submit 53 complaints to CEC, mostly about Facebook posts
Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili announced during a briefing that local non-governmental organizations have submitted a total of 53 complaints to the Central Election Commission (CEC), primarily concerning Facebook posts.
Papuashvili suggested that the purpose behind these complaints is to fabricate statistics that portray violations in the electoral process.
“Recently, NGOs have frequently raised concerns about the use of administrative resources and violations of pre-election campaigning. This is particularly noteworthy given that the OSCE/ODIHR report was quite positive regarding these issues. NGOs appear to be attempting to create a narrative of significant violations,” he remarked.
Among the 53 complaints received, 39 pertain to alleged misuse of administrative resources, while 14 concern violations related to pre-election campaigning. Notably, 32 of the 39 complaints regarding administrative resources specifically involve Facebook posts. Furthermore, seven out of the 14 complaints about pre-election campaigning relate to posts made by members of the election commission,” he noted.
“It appears that the primary focus of these monitoring organizations is patrolling Facebook posts. We should evaluate the actual incidents concerning these alleged violations, particularly regarding the use of administrative resources. The participation of MPs or delegates in various events has been cited as one of the supposed violations,” the Speaker added.
