Speaker meets President of Chamber of Deputies of Italian Parliament

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, met with Lorenzo Fontana, President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament.

The parties emphasised the importance of further deepening parliamentary cooperation in order to maintain an intensive dialogue on bilateral and multilateral relations. The growing momentum of parliamentary visits was welcomed. Shalva Papuashvili invited his Italian counterpart to visit Georgia together with members of the Italian Parliament.

The parties discussed developments in the European Union and the South Caucasus region. The importance of restoring dialogue between Georgia and the EU was underscored. Lorenzo Fontana stated that Italy supports Georgia’s European aspirations.

The Speaker of the Parliament, together with members of the delegation, also met with members of the Italian Parliament’s Friendship Group with Georgia.

The Georgian parliamentary delegation also includes Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee; Levan Makashvili, Chair of the EU Integration Committee; and Eka Sepashvili, Deputy Chair of the parliamentary political group “People’s Power.”
