Speaker meets OSCE PA President

The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, met with the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA),  Pere Joan Pons Sampietro.

According to the parliament, Shalva Papuashvili welcomed the visit of the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and his accompanying delegation to Georgia and expressed his gratitude for the readiness to conduct an open and constructive dialogue. He also emphasized the importance of an objective OSCE/ODIHR report regarding the 2024 parliamentary elections.

According to Papuashvili, Georgia is a loyal and active member of the OSCE and will continue to support the organization’s activities.

Pere Joan Pons Sampietro stated that the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly is a common platform for dialogue and it is important that in a world full of challenges, the OSCE maintains its relevance and is able to effectively implement its activities. He noted that the delegation’s visit to Georgia began with a visit to the occupation line and reaffirmed its firm support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The parties discussed the political processes taking place in Georgia in recent years and the legislative activities of the Parliament.

According to Shalva Papuashvili, the Parliament of Georgia adopts laws in response to the current events in the country and is actively working to protect Georgian democracy. He also confirmed the Georgian side’s readiness to continue working on the implementation of the OSCE/ODIHR recommendations. In this regard, Shalva Papuashvili mentioned the adoption of a new Election Code by the Parliament last year. The parties confirmed their willingness to continue the dialogue.
