Speaker meets Jordanian Parliamentary Friendship Group delegation

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili met with a delegation from the Jordanian House of Representatives’ Friendship Group with Georgia, the Georgian Parliament said.

According to the Parliament, the sides highlighted the historical ties between Georgia and Jordan and discussed areas of bilateral cooperation.

The sides expressed readiness to deepen cooperation at the parliamentary level, as well as in the fields of trade, medicine, education, tourism and culture.

They also discussed the possibility of signing a memorandum of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries and emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between parliamentary friendship groups and sectoral committees.

Members of the Jordanian House of Representatives highlighted religiously significant sites in Jordan, including the Baptism Site of Jesus, near which a Georgian cultural center is planned to be built. According to the Jordanian lawmakers, there is significant potential for cooperation between the two countries in tourism.

The sides also positively noted the interest of Jordanian students in Georgia, with many of them studying medicine.

Members of the delegation reaffirmed Jordan’s strong support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. They also invited Shalva Papuashvili to pay an official visit to Jordan.
