Speaker: Lithuanian people speak for Georgian citizens, remove Pavilonis from power
“The Lithuanian people ultimately conveyed the message of the Georgian people and removed Žygimantas Pavilionis from power,” the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, told the media.
Papuashvili was asked about the recent reports regarding Pavilionis, who has reportedly been relieved of his positions as Vice-Speaker of the Lithuanian Parliament and Chair of the European Affairs Committee.
Papuashvili stated that it appears Pavilionis was not only engaged in harmful activities against the Georgian people but also against the Lithuanian people.
“The Lithuanian people have made a decision and removed him and his party from power. These are the same people we saw previously protesting, including Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, who is the leader of Pavilionis’ party. They were coming to our country in gross violation of international law, the UN Charter, and with utter disrespect for the Georgian people, and organizing protests here.
So, in the end, his own people have responded to him, and ultimately people – be they Lithuanian, Estonian, German, French or Polish – will respond, because it is not in the interest of any people to look down on the Georgian people and undermine democracy in Georgia. Sooner or later, their own people will hold them accountable,” said Papuashvili.
