Speaker expresses gratitude to Switzerland for its mediation in Geneva format

Shalva Papuashvili, the Georgian Parliament Speaker, discussed the relations between the two countries during a meeting with Eric Nussbaumer, the President of the National Council of the Swiss Confederation.

Papuashvili expressed gratitude to Switzerland for its mediation efforts in the Geneva format. Papuashvili highlighted Switzerland’s role in helping Georgia maintain stability and peace in the face of regional challenges.

“The credit for standing by Switzerland lies in the fact that, amid the challenging situation and regional difficulties, Georgia can uphold stability and peace by leveraging such instruments. The focus was on parliamentary relations. My colleague visited Georgia two years ago; he was not the parliamentary chairman at the time but was part of the delegation. We recalled his visit to Tbilisi and discussed inter-parliamentary cooperation, particularly concerning the involvement of young people in parliamentary activities. Switzerland has valuable experience in this regard, and we look forward to learning from it,” stated Shalva Papuashvili.

Eric Nussbaumer mentioned his visit to Georgia in 2022 and emphasized that the meeting covered various aspects, including bilateral agreements, economic development, and the geopolitical situation.
