Speaker dubs opposition's rally on EC's 12 recommendations as cynicism
The Georgian Parliament Speaker says that opposition parties Lelo, United National Movement, and Strategy Agmashenebeli have done nothing to implement the EU proposals and now are organising a rally on implementing the EC’s 12 recommendations.
Shalva Papuashvili called it cynicism on their part.
“Lelo, UNM, and Strategy Agmashenebeli did not support any changes; they did not participate in working groups, committee meetings, or voting. They have been approaching various offices to thwart Georgia from obtaining candidate status, and now they are arranging a rally in connection with the 12 points (EC’s 12 recommendations). This is cynicism,” Speaker said.
According to the Speaker, Parliament has almost completed the implementation of the EU proposals.
“There are still two major concerns to address – judicial reform and de-oligarchisation. We already have Venice Commission suggestions and will have the OSCE/ODIR opinion next week,” Speaker remarked.
Elections of non-judge members of the Supreme Council of Justice and the law on de-oligarchisation, according to Papuashvili, are issues that cannot be addressed without the opposition’s participation.
