Speaker: Contempt and hatred normalized by UNM and NGOs resulted in tragedy
It was evident that the normalization of contempt and hatred by the National Movement and NGOs would eventually lead to such a tragic outcome, the Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili wrote on the social network.
“I share the grief of Ermile Gigiadze’s family and stand with them in their sorrow.
It was evident that the normalization of contempt and hatred by the National Movement and NGOs and their portrayal of these actions as praiseworthy would eventually lead to such a tragic outcome.
I had warned donors to hold the NGOs accountable and urged them to condemn and distance themselves from this campaign of hatred and violence. Despite personal meetings and public appeals, the response was insufficient.
This tragedy is irreversible and deeply saddening,” Shalva Papuashvili wrote.
Imedi TV reported an incident in Tskaltubo where opposition activist Roland Nutsubidze allegedly insulted members of the ruling Georgian Dream party during a door-to-door meeting in the village of Geguti. According to the report, Nutsubidze verbally attacked Ermile Gigiadze, a member of Georgian Dream. During the heated exchange, Gigiadze reportedly suffered a stress-related medical incident and tragically passed away on the spot.
