Speaker congratulates citizens on first Constitution adoption day

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili congratulated his fellow citizens on the anniversary of the adoption of the first Constitution of Georgia.

On February 21, 1921, the Constituent Assembly of Georgia adopted the Constitution of the Democratic Republic of Georgia, which was the country’s first modern fundamental law after gaining back independence from Russia.

“Although the Constitution was short-lived and existed only four days, it was a progressive, leading legal-political and worthy document in the history of constitutionalism. Georgia’s current Constitution is based on the spirit of the first Constitution and serves as the foundation of Georgia’s European values,” the Speaker said.
