Speaker condemns German Ambassador’s un-European attacks on Georgian elected officials

“The periodic attacks by the German Ambassador on the elected representatives of the Georgian people, driven by irritation over legitimate criticism, are fundamentally un-European in both their essence and form,” Shalva Papuashvili, Georgian Parliament Speaker, posted on social media.

Papuashvili emphasised the importance of halting such malicious actions.

“Considering criticism as ‘bad talk’ is precisely a Soviet, not a European, mindset. Europe symbolises openness to critique, not suppression of dissenting voices. The fact that the European Union is large and that we aspire to join it does not grant anyone the right to forbid us from criticising issues that deserve scrutiny.
