“In France, authorities plan to arrest the leader of the country’s second-largest political force. In Germany, there are efforts to ban the second most popular party. In the U.S., an opposition presidential candidate faced a potential 561-year prison sentence, only escaping it through his election as president. The prosecutor handling the case has announced his resignation,” Shalva Papuashvili, the Georgian Parliament Speaker, wrote on social media.

Papuashvili criticized perceived double standards, referencing the proverb, “You can’t see the log in your own eye but look for the speck in someone else’s,” Papuashvili wrote.

Prosecutors in France have sought to convict Marine Le Pen of embezzling state funds, proposing imprisonment and a five-year ban from public office. Additionally, over a hundred Bundestag members from various factions have submitted a proposal to ban the right-wing populist party, Alternative for Germany.

Meanwhile, the New York Times reports that Special Prosecutor Jack Smith, who led two criminal investigations into Donald Trump, plans to step down before Trump’s inauguration.
