Speaker: Commission members responsible for selecting CEC candidates should have state-centric attitude
“Commission members responsible for selecting candidates for CEC chairmanship and membership should have a state-centric attitude,” emphasized Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili regarding the ongoing selection process for candidates to Chair and members of the Central Election Commission (CEC).
“Society is aware that I previously tasked the same commission, appointed by President Salome Zourabichvili. Therefore, I opted not to establish a new selection commission. While it’s regrettable if some members choose not to participate in the interviews, the commission remains authorized to proceed with its responsibilities. I appreciate their ongoing dedication to the task. I await their decision and recommendations,” Papuashvili stated.
The commission in charge of selecting candidates for the chairmanship and membership of the Central Election Commission (CEC) has started conducting interviews with the candidates. Three members of the nine-member selection commission, including the President’s representative, have suspended their powers. However, the commission is continuing its work with the remaining six members.
