Speaker believes electing PM from parliament indicates healthy political system

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili says that the recent election of the Prime Minister from the parliament indicates the health of the political system and sets new standards, marking a significant milestone for the development of Georgian democracy.

“The selection of a well-versed parliamentarian who has held crucial roles like majority leader and speaker, as the Prime Minister, marks a pivotal moment in the advancement of our democracy.

This moment is particularly interesting for the opposition, as a colleague with whom they have had a long-standing relationship may engage in heated public debates. However, behind these debates, human relationships always exist. These relations will add another dynamic to the relationship between the government and the parliament,” Papuashvili stated.

On February 1, the ruling Georgian Dream party elected Irakli Garibashvili as its new chair and nominated Irakli Kobakhidze for the position of Prime Minister.
