Speaker asks president's foreign advisors to recommend Zourabichvili not to open Pandora's Box
“I asked the President’s advisors, especially foreigners, to recommend Salome Zourabichvili not to open Pandora’s Box, i.e. Constitution’s disrespect,” said Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.
The Speaker underscored that any person should respect the Constitution, regardless of the position.
“We saw that the President was confirmed to have violated the Constitution of Georgia. I still haven’t completely given up hope, but it seems that she intends to breach it again and make it a system. The Constitution of Georgia is absolutely disrespected on her part. This is a Pandora’s box, and I don’t wish anyone to open it,” he said.
On October 18, the Georgian parliament held a vote to impeach President Salome Zourabichvili but failed to collect the necessary votes needed to impeach her.
The Constitutional Court on October 16 ruled that the President violated the Constitution when travelling abroad for meetings with EU leadership without the government’s authorization.
