Speaker affirms people's role in granting legitimacy to parliament

“The parliament derives its legitimacy from the people, who have clearly expressed their preference for those they wish to see in the majority,” stated Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.

According to Papuashvili, the 11th convocation of parliament will convene soon.

“The legitimacy of the parliament acknowledged by the opposition is mere rhetoric; it is the people who bestow legitimacy upon the parliament. On October 26, the public granted legitimacy to our parliament and clearly articulated their choice for the majority. The Georgian Dream emerged victorious with 54%, receiving 1,200,200 votes. The people stand behind us, and on behalf of these citizens, the 11th convocation of parliament will convene soon, ensuring that the supreme legislative body remains under our stewardship for the next four years,” he asserted.
