Speaker accuses opposition and European politicians of manipulating investigation narrative
Shalva Papuashvili, Chairman of the Georgian Parliament, has delivered a strong critique of both the opposition and certain European politicians regarding their roles in recent protests and their calls for investigations.
“The opposition demanded an investigation, and now that it is underway, they will assert that they no longer want it and attempt to manipulate the narrative to align with their objectives. Georgian society is well aware of the disruptions caused by the opposition and has grown accustomed to it. What is more concerning is the behaviour of some European politicians who not only support these falsehoods but also incite unrest,” Papuashvili stated.
He described the recent protests in Tbilisi as ‘shameful,’ particularly condemning foreign politicians who addressed demonstrators from a podium outside the Georgian Parliament.
“This is un-European behaviour. How can Europe impart lessons on ethics when its representatives violate international law and encourage protests in another country? Just imagine if we were to do the same in their nations.
They arrive with an air of superiority, behaving like guardians of clandestine knowledge, lecturing the Georgian people. This has nothing to do with authentic European values. Possessing a European passport does not automatically equate to upholding those values,” he concluded.
