Some fire pockets in Borjomi uncontained, Interior Minister says

Georgian Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri on Monday said there are still pockets of fire that haven’t been extinguished due to the wind and difficult terrain.

Heavy equipment is actively involved in fire suppression operations, cutting the roads to bring the water to the spot, he went on.

The Minister said over 1,200 personnel from the Interior Ministry, Defence Ministry, and Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture are involved in the works.

“There is a danger of the fire spreading if the wind blows; it may worsen the situation. For now, there is no need for evacuation,” Gomelauri noted.
