Soft wheat supply to Georgia to be unaffected by Russia's ban on durum wheat export
Starting December 1, 2023, Russia plans to ban durum wheat export. However, this embargo does not affect the wheat import to Georgia, as the country buys soft wheat from Russia, the Association of Flour Producers reported.
The association clarified that the ban applies to durum wheat, utilized in pasta production, and does not affect soft wheat used in the bread industry.
“The import and delivery of local wheat by mills in Georgia are proceeding smoothly, and there is a supply of wheat for consumption of over two months in the country. Therefore, food security in Georgia remains fully protected,” the association states.
