SMS Ads require recipient consent

Starting March 1, SMS advertisements will be allowed with recipients’ consent, as per amendments to the Law on Personal Data Protection approved by the parliament in March 2023.

The proposed amendments restrict aggressive marketing campaigns. Any person would be able to cancel the consent given to a company previously within seven days.

Also, from June 1, public institutions and one part of private companies will be obligated to have personal data protection officers.

Personal Data Protection Service defines sanctions. The upper verge of the to-be imposed fine is GEL 20,000.
