Small family-type house for children with disabilities opened in Tbilisi

A specialized small family-type house for children with disabilities has been opened at Kerch Street in Tbilisi.

Some of the beneficiaries of the Tbilisi Orphanage will move to this house. The official opening ceremony was attended by Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze, US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, head of Agency For State Care And Assistance For the (Statutory) Victims of Human trafficking Mari Maglaperidze.

As Kelly Degnan noted, this is a very important project showing cooperation between the United States and Georgia.

“This is a project that serves one of the most vulnerable sectors of society, which provides a home for orphans with disabilities from infancy to adulthood. They will receive high-quality medical care. They will learn how to become full members of society when they leave this house. This is a project funded by the United States with 1.2 million GEL” –  US Ambassador said.

The construction of the family-type house was carried out within the framework of the Humanitarian Aid Program of the US Embassy, Defense Cooperation Service. The project costs about $ 1,200,000 ($ 425,000). It has been implemented by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).
