The Tbilisi Court of Appeals found guilty those convicted of the July 5 physical violence against journalists and videographers, including GPB First Channel cameraman Ilia Tvaliashvili, but found them all innocent of orchestrating the violence and shortened their sentences.

Accordingly, Akaki Nakashidze, Tornike Davlasheridze, Davit Kutaladze, Otar Gelashvili, Tsotne Chikhladze, and Gia Giguashvili were sentenced to four years in prison.

Tamar Iakobidze, the prosecutor, stated that the prosecution disagreed with the ruling and would appeal to the Supreme Court.

As the prosecution points out, the judgement of the first instance court in Ilia Tvaliashvili’s case was appealed; however, the medical examination report has yet to be delivered, resulting in an unchanged ruling.

“The inquiry is still underway since his eye was injured, which was the focus of a specific investigation,” she stated.
