The sitting of the parliamentary majority begins at the central office of the ruling Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia Party. The developments in the country, after the parliament’s turning down of constitutional changes prepared by the parliamentary majority regarding transformation onto the proportional system of elections for 2020 parliamentary polls in Georgia, will be the main topic of talks.

Archil Talakvadze, Speaker of the parliament said on November 15 that transformation onto the proportional system of elections was the initiative of Georgian Dream party and a special passage was added into Constitution that the elections in Georgia would be fully held based on proportional rule starting 2024.

Parliament Speaker further elaborated on that the initiative of Georgian Dream to hold the 2020 parliamentary polls with the proportional system was not backed by one part of lawmakers on November 14, unfortunately.

“Non-fulfillment of the initiative does not mean the end of the world as opponents want to portray the situation now. This means that elections in Georgia will be held with the same system till 2024,” Talakvadze said.

The constitutional changes prepared by the parliamentary majority regarding transformation onto the proportional system of elections were turned down in the parliament on November 14. Some majority MPs left their parliamentary seats and posts. The oppositional parties and Georgian public representatives turned to the street in protest.
