Shalva Papuashvili meets UK Parliament’s House of Commons Speaker
Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili met Sir Lindsay Hoyle, the Speaker of the House of Commons in the UK Parliament.
According to the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili noted that the current relations between Georgia and the United Kingdom do not reflect the long-standing friendship and strategic partnership between the two countries. He emphasized the importance of open and constructive dialogue.
The Speaker expressed gratitude for the UK’s streadfast support of Georgia’s territorial integrity and the non-recognition policy of occupied regions.
The parties reviewed bilateral relations between the two countries, emphasizing the significance of restoring the United Kingdom–Georgia Strategic Dialogue (Wardrop Dialogue).
The meeting focused on the further development of parliamentary ties. During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the negative impact of foreign influence on the political decision-making process.
Lindsay Hoyle expressed hope that relations would improve after Papuashvili familiarized him with the Georgian parliament’s activities and priorities.
The meeting was held within the framework of the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania.
