Severe downpours disrupt Akhaltsikhe: heavy machinery deployed for ongoing clean-up operations

Torrential rainfall in the village of Tskruti, Akhaltsikhe Municipality, caused a local ravine to burst its banks, flooding the surrounding area, damaging internal roads, and severely disrupting local travel, according to the municipal authority.

The Akhaltsikhe City Hall confirmed that heavy machinery has been deployed to the site and clean-up operations are proceeding around the clock.

“The disaster response and clearance operations were inspected on-site by Akhaltsikhe Mayor Varlam Tsiklauri, Deputy Mayor Giorgi Melikidze, and officials from relevant municipal services.

The municipal leadership met with an affected family, assessed the damage firsthand, and assured residents that the local government will take all necessary measures to resolve the situation as swiftly as possible,” the City Hall reported.

Heavy downpours yesterday led to the swelling of the ravine, flooding nearby properties, eroding local road infrastructure, and rendering movement across the village difficult.
