“I cannot accept any statement concerning corruption in the court,” Nino Kadagidze, Chair of the Supreme Court and Supreme Council of Justice (SCJ) of Georgia stated following the meeting with the Prime Minister.
She claims the US side failed to provide evidence to justify allegations against her colleagues. Kadagidze praised the Prime Minister for his support and described the US decision against four Georgian justices as “unprecedented” and “incomprehensible.”
“The court has encountered many significant obstacles over the years, but I want to unequivocally state that there has never been such a real and tangible achievement as a corruption-free legal system. As a result, I cannot accept any claim that corruption exists in the court.
Despite my request, I received neither solid evidence nor a hint about what justified corruption accusations against my colleagues. As a result, I fully support them as chair of the Supreme Court and the Supreme Council of Justice. I will ensure the inviolability and freedom of each of our judges,” Kadagidze said.
The Prime Minister on Monday met with Supreme Court Chair Nino Kadagidze and the Supreme Council of Justice over recent US sanctions against four justices. The judges requested a meeting with the Prime Minister after the US State Department sanctioned three current and one retired judge.
The US imposed sanctions against Mikheil Chinchaladze, Levan Murusidze, Irakli Shengelia, and Valerian Tsertsvadze.
