Salome Zourabichvili criticizes parties focused on local elections: Local elections won’t change anything
“I cannot help but address those parties engaged in some kind of local election campaign. Where are we? Where is the country? How can anyone believe that these elections will change something or bring real achievements?” former President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, stated.
According to her, the main task today is to save Georgia’s future.
“We must all understand that the government is leading Georgia toward the Russian model, and the formation of such a regime is happening very quickly. What took time in Russia is developing here even faster. This summer we are witnessing attacks on NGOs, and after nine months of imprisonment, we are already seeing the final processes unfold—again with baseless and absurd accusations. Tolerating this means handing Georgia over to Russia, and I do not believe our country is ready to surrender. If I believed that, I would not be here.
Sometimes it was political leaders, sometimes activists, now it is NGOs under attack. We do not have strong partners standing firmly behind us. There is no so-called ‘war party’; there is only Georgia, fighting for survival against Russia. Our task is to defend our country and preserve its independence. This is not the time for election campaigns. The real mission is saving Georgia’s future,” she said.
Several non-governmental organisations had their bank accounts frozen as part of an ongoing investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office.
