The Georgian Orthodox Church celebrates Assumption of Virgin Mary on August 28.
Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II is conducting Divine Liturgy at the Sioni Cathedral.
The feast day of the Assumption of Mary was preceded by fasting that started on 14 August and is expected to end today.
Three St. Mary’s days from the twelve great holidays are marked – birth, Assumption and taking St. Mary to temple.
