Safety measures ensure no injuries in Sachkhere-Oni road landslide, Roads Department Chief says
Giorgi Tsereteli, the Chairman of the Roads Department, has affirmed that the collapse of the landmass on the Sachkhere-Oni connecting road section did not result in any injuries. He stressed that a robust set of safety precautions were implemented in advance due to the ongoing construction activities.
Tsereteli clarified that the impacted road segment is a part of the Sachkhere-Oni connection, where new infrastructure is being established on the Oni side. The current construction focus is on the construction of walls and bridges. He highlighted that more than 140 meters of protective walls have already been constructed.
He explained, “Construction activities were in progress on the 40-meter portion where the landmass collapsed. In various spots, the road width was narrowed to accommodate only one vehicle. Safety protocols were strictly adhered to. Furthermore, some adjustments to road alignment have been made, incorporating buffer zones for safety. Thankfully, no injuries occurred in the incident. Construction work is ongoing, and the damaged road section will be reinstated.”
