Saakashvili's family demands ex-President's transfer to clinic over health deterioration worries

Family members of jailed ex-Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili say they worry over his “health deterioration,” calling it “extremely serious.”

Saakashvili’s mother Giuli Alasania said her son “must be taken to the clinic, probably overseas as the doctors say there is no proper clinic in Georgia to treat such a disease.”

Saakashvili’s brother, Davit Saakashvili added that his brother is “Putin’s hostage in Georgia, so it is a matter of everyone’s dignity to keep him healthy.”

“I urge the civil society, mothers, fathers, brothers, those valuing human life, please, help us save Misha’s life. I would like to address the political parties, which should play an active role in preventing the recurrence of the tragedy we experienced a long time ago,” David Saakashvili stated.

On 27 April, the Public Defender-assigned group of doctors published a new evaluation, saying that Mikheil Saakashvili’s health has “further deteriorated” since their previous visit to the Rustavi Prison in January.
