Rustavi Steel Plant employees go on strike

Employees of Rustavi Steel LTD. went on strike following unsuccessful mediation, the Georgian Trade Unions said.

According to Trade Unions, the strikers demand an increase of wages by 500 GEL, labour security standards, revision of the bonus system and collective labour agreements as the guarantee of their rights.

The employer offers a wage increase of 50 gel gradually from April 1 till July 1 which is unacceptable for the workers. The Georgian Trade Unions will defend the employees’ interests.

“The union and representatives of its member organizations joined the strikers in solidarity from today. The strike will be permanent until the demands of the employees are met,” reads the statement.
