Reconstruction works on Rustaveli Avenue will begin at midnight on July 23. Traffic will be completely restricted on the avenue and on a section of Merab Kostava Street,” said Kakha Kaladaze, Tbilisi Mayor, at the municipal government meeting.

Tbilisi Mayor explained that reconstruction works were delayed since companies did not participate in a tender announced several times.

“Rustaveli Avenue is the visiting card of our capital, both visually and historically. An avenue that has witnessed many moments of joy, victory, pain, and sorrow, it must be well-maintained and modern, ensuring that both visitors to our country and local residents alike can feel a sense of pride,” he said.

Kakha Kaladze further stated that the reconstruction area from Tamar Chovelidze Street is approximately 2 kilometres of road. At the initial stage, underground communications, water, drainage and gas supply systems will be replaced. Trash bins will be installed underground. The roadway and sidewalk will be renovated, and an asphalt surface will be laid. The street lighting network will be completely replaced, and a modern LED lighting system will be installed,” Kaladze stated.

According to the Tbilisi Mayor, a significant part of the project is greening and pedestrian safety, which involves the arrangement of pavements, new traffic signs and horizontal lines on the road.

The reconstruction works are implemented by the Municipal Infrastructure Service of the Tbilisi City Hall. The works are expected to be completed by the end of November.
