Romanian FM: We believe Georgian people are connected to European dream
“We believe the Georgian people are connected to the European dream. I have stated that dialogue should restart, but reforms are needed for that to happen,” Oana-Silvia Țoiu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, told reporters ahead of the EU Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) in Luxembourg.
According to the Romanian FM, opposition leaders who are in prison should be brought before a real judicial system, not a judicial system “which is used as an instrument to interfere with democratic processes.”
“I have said this many times, and it is exactly the same message I delivered to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. We believe the Georgian people are connected to the European dream. I have stated again the need for dialogue to restart, for that path to restart, but also that reforms are needed for that to happen.
The opposition leaders who have been thrown in jail need to face an actual justice system — not a justice system used as an instrument to interfere with democratic processes. We have also talked about security. This has been the main perspective of my call — the conversation about connectivity and open dialogue, and our ability to create a pro-European alternative to pro-Russian influence. That is the way forward,” she said.
