Romanian Ambassador hopes for unanimous decision on Georgia's candidate status
“The decision on Georgia’s EU candidate status has to be taken in unanimity by the 27 member states,” said Romanian Ambassador to Georgia, Răzvan Rotundu.
He said Romania supports Georgia’s granting candidate status.
“As you know, on the 14th, and 15th of December, there will be a Council where the decision will be taken on granting or not the candidate status to Georgia and several other countries. Now, this is a decision that has to be taken in unanimity by the 27 member states. I cannot speak for all the other 26, but one notice concerning Romania. The Parliament of Romania adopted a resolution, by which it supported the recommendation of the European Commission and also the granting of the candidate status for Georgia. Once again, I’m speaking about my own country,” he said.
According to the Ambassador, working on the EC’s defined nine priorities is significant.
“Concerning the nine priorities, steps set out by the European Commission report. We have seen the measures taken by the government of Georgia. It is a work in progress. Once again, we hope for a unanimous decision. The work is very important, and it will be continued throughout the next year,” he said.
