The Roads Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure has announced a tender to analyze alternative routes for roads providing access to the Arsenal Mountain area in Tbilisi and prepare detailed design documentation. the Infrastructure Ministry  reported.

The main objective of the project is to establish efficient and safe connections between the Arsenal Mountain area and Tbilisi’s existing road network, creating road links to the area from several directions. The project is also intended to improve the distribution of traffic flows and ease congestion in the central part of the capital.

Under the tender, the consultant will study possible routes connecting to the Arsenal Mountain area and develop several alternatives for each direction. At least two connections — from the southern and northern directions — are being considered, although the study will also examine other potential routes.

The assessment of alternative routes will take into account engineering and technical, transport, economic, environmental and social factors. The study will also include an analysis of traffic flows, travel times using existing and proposed roads, road safety and the project’s economic feasibility.

The work will be carried out in two stages. The first stage will involve analyzing alternative routes and identifying the optimal solution. Following an assessment of the results and recommendations from the first stage, the Roads Department will decide whether to proceed to the second stage, which will involve preparing detailed design documentation for the selected route.

The detailed design will include the engineering studies required for road construction, design drawings, cost estimates, traffic and road safety solutions, environmental and social considerations, and other documentation required for construction.
