Residents temporarily relocated to hotels after explosion on Samtredia Street

The residents have been temporarily accommodated in hotels due to an explosion in a residential building on Samtredia Street in Tbilisi, the Tbilisi City Hall reported.

The explosion occurred early in the morning at the residential building located at Samtredia Street #2 in the Didubi district.

“The building houses 93 families, but fortunately, no injuries have been reported.

Prompt evacuation measures were undertaken, ensuring the affected population’s safety. The Didubi district administration promptly arranged temporary accommodation for the residents in nearby hotels.

The current status of the building is under assessment to determine whether residents can return to their homes or if temporary relocation will be necessary until the building undergoes necessary strengthening measures.

Emergency response teams from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, along with relevant agencies and representatives from the City Hall and Didubi district administration, have been actively involved since the incident occurred,” the Tbilisi City Hall stated.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the explosion may have been caused by a natural gas leak.
