Renowned Georgian theatre and film director, playwright, writer, painter, and sculptor Rezo Gabriadze has died at age 84, Gabriadze’s family relatives confirmed the information.

Rezo Gabriadze was born in 1936 in Kutaisi. He wrote more than thirty screenplays, including the Soviet film classics: Don’t Grieve, Mimino, and Kin-Dza-Dza.

In 1981, Rezo Gabriadze founded Marionette Theater. He earned many international awards, including Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters of the French Republic.
