Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili and representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) discussed the upcoming repatriation of 13 bodies of Georgian citizens from occupied Abkhazia onto the territory controlled by the Georgian central government.
According to the governmental press service, the meeting accentuated ICRC efforts as a neutral facilitator implementing programs designed to identify missing persons and assist their families.
The sides underlined that the bodies of over 550 persons were found through joint efforts. Two hundred among them have been identified and delivered to their families.
“Work in this direction intensified. The Interagency Commission was established in 2019 to ensure enhanced cross-agency coordination in this direction,” Irakli Gharibashvili said.
Severin Chappaz, Head of the ICRC Delegation in Georgia, attended the meeting.
