A rehabilitation center for children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy will be built in Tbilisi, Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced at a meeting of the Tbilisi Municipal Government.

According to Kaladze, the municipality will transfer a 1,657-square-meter plot of land in the Gldani district to the organization “Together We Fight Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy” for the establishment of the rehabilitation center.

“A modern rehabilitation center for children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy will be established in the capital. The central government, under the leadership of the Prime Minister, has made a number of decisions in this regard, and Tbilisi City Hall is also actively involved in the process. We have held several meetings with parents of children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy and discussed their needs in detail. That is why we decided to transfer a 1,657-square-meter plot of land in Gldani to the organization ‘Together We Fight Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy’ for the establishment of the rehabilitation center,” Kaladze said.

According to the mayor, both regular medical and rehabilitation care and active participation in public life are important for children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

“This will be a space where children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy will be able to receive comprehensive rehabilitation and educational services, which will significantly contribute to their socialization and development. Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a rare genetic disorder that causes progressive muscle weakness. Coping with the disease requires daily and continuous effort from both children and their families. That is why regular medical and rehabilitation care, as well as active participation in public life, are important for them,” Kaladze said.
